Parents’ Testimonies

At St John’s, we believe the best measure of our school is the experiences of the families who are part of our community. Parents see first-hand the difference our caring staff, nurturing environment, and rich opportunities make in their children’s lives.

On this page, you’ll find some of the thoughts and reflections our parents have kindly shared. Their words capture not only the learning and progress children make, but also the joy, confidence, and sense of belonging that comes from being part of our school family.

"The school provides excellent care support and guidance as well as a first rate quality of education. Christian values underpin the work of the school and this has been evident in the provision for our children. Our children have learnt to be tolerant, forgiving and be advocates for others. They demonstrate a caring approach to situations and have been able to engage in so many different experiences at St John’s. They have been so well supported for success in their secondary school and for life."

"The first communication I received from the school, via their purple pages, gives me a glimpse of the weekly value, and often displays a message from the headteacher on how this has been embedded into the children's learning. It is not just the headteacher ticking the boxes, my child comes regularly telling me about what he has learnt in collective worship, or that he has visited the church, or that he prayed at school today. From day one, I was delighted to hear that, on a daily basis, the school is embedding their values and supporting my child to learn in an environment where he understands faith and the christian foundation which we want him to understand and be part of their everyday lives. "

"There are many good schools in the area, all within walking distance of our home. However, the one thing that stood out at St John's was that it was a Church of England school which really put Christian values at its heart. As Christians, this was important to us as we wanted our daughter to be instilled with these values, and hear Christian lessons, at school as well as home. Even though we couldn't visit the school, it seemed from the website and the video 'tour' that the school would deliver this for us. In particular it seemed to mix both academic learning and inclusive/caring values which appealed to us...  Throughout our daughters reception year we have seen how the school have supported her in her learning as well as enabling her to thrive socially. I have been impressed with the speed at which she has picked up reading & writing, and in particular maths through the different tools the reception team use.

We also noted that, particularly at Christmas and Easter, our daughter would come home talking about the Christian story (often with questions it was hard to answer!). She still sings the songs she learned in the nativity and for the Easter assembly. The stories have clearly been told in an engaging way."

"I have been extremely impressed with every aspect of my son's nursery and school experience. The staff are extremely approachable and supportive, my son has definitely flourished, has become more confident and gained valuable social skills since attending St Johns.  As a parent the most important thing about sending your child somewhere, is you want them to be safe, feel included and loved when they’re not with you. I can definitely see and know that my child feels this when he’s at school.

Communication is also key, and this is something I am always impressed with. Emails are answered quickly, and regular tapestry updates and newsletters show parents what our children are doing each week. I like the fact the key values of the school are followed at nursery, it’s great to know what values they are learning about and this can then be talked about at home too."

"I cannot speak highly enough of how the school supported our daughter when she broke her leg during the half term holiday. The speed at which the reception team got her back in to the classroom, the support of the the teachers/TA's and the kindness of the other children in her class, was fantastic. I am sure this is in part due to the way the school teaches Christian values, and all the staff live those values."

"As we reach the end of our primary school journey at St John’s, I would just like to take the opportunity to thank you and everyone that has supported our child at St John's.

You and your team have made him feel welcome and feel at home, provided excellent teaching and learning opportunities to name a few and helped him to overcome any obstacles along the way. I think St John’s is a fantastic school and I think you and all involved should be very proud to be part of it."

"We really appreciate all the support and encouragement our child has received, and it means a lot to see her confidence and creativity recognised."

They have been so well supported and have developed compassion and an awareness of the feelings of other. This has helped my two older children to be successful in their secondary school in particular."

"I am writing to let you know what a delight it has been to observe first-hand what a wonderful start to school my grandson has had at St John’s.  I first came to visit the school with his parents and had the opportunity to learn more about what your school offered from Mrs Monks through the welcoming and informative sessions and the polite and charming children who showed us around. Our experience this year has proved what a great choice his parents made in selecting St Johns.

I cannot thank the team enough for all for the magnificent job they have done to develop and nurture our Grandson's confidence and love of learning. They have noticed him, given him a platform and voice while recognising all his achievements throughout the year. The end of year report, in the form of a personal letter, was a very special touch, demonstrating just how well they know him and how much he has achieved since starting school.  Over the year the communication has been exceptional.

I would like to finish by saying how much we appreciate all the hard work you and the whole staff team do to make St John’s such a wonderful school.  Please may you pass on our thanks to them all too."

"As a Christian parent, I have been thoroughly impressed with the start my Reception aged daughter has been afforded by the community at St. John’s. Her successful transition into school life has been made possible by the care of staff and children across the school. She is so at home at St. John’s and her growth as a learner, and more importantly, as a considerate individual has resulted from this. She speaks happily about the experiences her and her class have already had at the local church, especially taking part in the Christmas Service. It is also clear that Christian values and teachings are consistently shared within school as she often draws links between experiences we have at home and ideas such as creation, for example recycling to help look after God’s world. Also, she is enjoying learning about other cultures and religions, which I believe will further prepare her to thrive and make a positive contribution to our diverse world."
