History

We teach history as a discrete subject at St John’s with historical learning building throughout pupils’ time at school. In KS1 pupils begin by exploring their own lives and recent history, they then learn about the lives and legacies of prominent individuals such as Mary Anning and Mary Seacole.

At KS2 key events and concepts are taught in chronological order, beginning with the Stone Age up to and including World War 2, which will help pupils develop their knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It should inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past.

As a school we use the History Society as a resource to support teaching, please see a link to this and our curriculum overview below for more information.
